LaVerne Arlene Johnston

Today marks the 6 year anniversary of my grandma's passing. Surprisingly, I am not sad. I had fully expected to be heartachey because those feelings of loss have been building recently, but today I feel at peace with this reality. I've spent the day reliving my favorite moments with her and for some reason, that seems just right.

She was a quirky, spunky woman who helped raise me on a healthy dose of stories from her youth- parking and necking in high school, working in an ice cream shop, running a seashell business and being the wife of a marine. She dated Ken Kesey, author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. She bit her dentist as a child. She loved the movie Airplane, and listened to 4 Non Blondes!

She was awesome :)

  1. Yeah, your Grandma sounds like she rocked. I'd like to think we'd get along.

  2. Awww, I love your memories of her :) I remember most vividly her beautiful seashell roses...I was always so impressed with them, and to this day whenever I see similar roses, I always think of her. :) :) :)
