6 Years

Joe and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary on Sunday! As every "lovey-dovey" holiday goes with us, it was a day full of bloopers, but was also great fun :)

We started our day off thinking we were just going to take a scenic drive up the coast and end at the Blue Water Grill for dinner. Rather than leave town like we usually do, we figured that we'd stay close to home so we could afford all of our upcoming events- my brother's 18th birthday and graduation, a wedding next month, 4th of July, etc. We were going to treat ourselves to a Disneyland trip the next day though!

So mid-drive we decide to trek all the way to Santa Barbara like we did for our second Valentine's Day years ago. We've been wanting to go back for awhile now, so it was perfect. In theory! We ended up missing our freeway and got completely lost, circling parts of Santa Monica that we've never seen before!

{I saw this license plate as we were driving and had to take a pic!}

At that point Joe said "screw it!" and vowed to save the anniversary by making reservations at the Disneyland hotel! And save it he did! 2 days at the happiest place on Earth are better than 1!

Once we checked in, we realized that it wasn't as cool as we thought though. The reservationist talked us into paying for a premium room, and when we checked in we found that it was just a wheelchair accessible room with 2 double beds. They were sold out so there was nothing we could do.

Flash forward to us entering the room and you'll find uncool: part 2. The room was filthy!!! Dirty sink, dirty tub, in desperate need of vacuuming ... I'm not even going to mention what I found on the bathroom wall and on the headboard! Not to mention the fact that the bathroom door didn't shut properly and the lamp turned itself off and on all night. Needless to say, we got a half refund and a slew of apologies.

On to Disneyland! No, wait, it was a blockout day for our pass :( Oh well, we knew for sure that Monday wasn't blocked out, so we were happy to just walk around and check out the Downtown Disney district, have a nice dinner and enjoy our stay at the Disneyland Hotel (they have so many neat nooks and crannies to explore!)

We had dinner at our favorite restaurant at Downtown Disney- The Jazz Kitchen! We enjoyed Chili Mango Glazed Coconut Shrimp, Stuffed Artichoke Hearts, Blackened Mahi Mahi with Champagne Sauce, Blackened Filet Mignon with Asiago Grit Fries, Double Chocolate Bread Pudding, and of course a Lemon Drop for Jen and a Vodka Tonic for Joe! Everything was yummy!

After dinner Joe gave me my anniversary gift, which was a pearl from one of those oyster kiosks. It's something that I've wanted to do together the entire length of our relationship! Joe chose the oyster and it held a blue pearl, which I learned is the second rarest color in the pearl spectrum! The lady was so nice and had a great sense of humor while we took forever choosing the jewelry to set the pearl in. At first I chose a ring, thinking it was silver and not white gold, but found out I was wrong and that it was $250! I decided on a very pretty necklace that had a tiny diamond and was more within our price range. As we were getting ready to leave, the lady told me to choose another oyster for free! I got to pick this time and ended up with a green pearl! It's actually a cream color that has just a tiny bit of green in the light. It was incredibly nice of her to give me one on her :)

We ended our actual anniversary by watching Disneyland's fireworks from our balcony and placing a tiny room service order. We couldn't wait for Dinseyland to open in the morning!

To be continued ...

  7. You know, Jamie, I'm pretty go with the flow. I wasn't even going to complain about the room until that last straw, which was the disgusting bathtub. I went to take a bath the morning that we were checking out, and after the tub was already half-filled I saw something brown stuck to the drain. I poked it with the soap wrapper to see if it was part of the tub, and it started crumbling into my bath water. It was like cookie dough! I was so grossed out that I immediately jumped out of the tub and called the front desk.

    They were super nice though, and it worked out well :)
