Migraines

I have a tendency to get headaches and migraines, and after years of doctors and neurologisits, I've learned how to manage them quite well. The one thing that always baffled everyone was why I get them. There never seemed to be a consistent trigger, but I'm getting better at evaluating what I've eaten as soon as I get a "bonked" head- like just now.

I finished off my lunch with 3 Nilla Waffers and had an instant headache. The same thing happened last night after dinner. I'm thinking that the cookies are trash-bound now! Another thing that seems to make me react in this way are Eggo Waffles. Other waffles are fine, but Eggo must have some sort of nasty preservative that doesn't agree with me!

These are headaches though- not migraines. The only thing that I can attribute those to is stress. I stopped getting them 3+ times a week when I left my job for something I enjoyed more. There's something to be said for the concept of loving what you do. It makes a huge difference in all areas of your life!

  2. My husband gets really bad migraines and has been to several doctors in regards to them as well. Sometimes just walking into a store will set one off. He thinks it has something to do with the fluorescent lighting and how it casts a glare on the white floors. He will also get them from certain foods he eats but we can never pinpoint what they may be. It's so strange! Sorry to hear that you go through the same thing:o( It seems to affect everyone myself included because I don't know what I can do for him when one comes on.

  3. Yuck. I have suffered from migraines for much of my life - childhood and adult - and I can say that I FEEL YOUR PAIN. I try med after, med, neurologist after neurologist. All i want is for the migraines to GO AWAY. :(

Doesn't it feel like us migraine sufferers are in our own little club sometimes? Of course, it's kind of a crappy club, no? :)

  4. Sorry to hear about the headaches. My daughter has had them for several years and we've been down the same path. All she can do is wait it out and take the meds. Although, I am a firm believer that stress is a HUGE trigger (along with food and hormones). Best of luck to you. Feel better soon.

  5. Kudos to you for actually thinking about WHY you get headaches. I've found that whenever I need to figure something out...journaling what I put into my body usually gives me the answer within a few days.

  6. great job at narrowing things down, I've had to do the same thing with a particular ache that I get, it moves around, but I think I've connected it with my cycle. way to go.

  10. I used to get migraines every single day. It was awfule. I tried 11 different medications, and they all made me sick. Drs said they were stress related. When I got involved with interior design and doing things that I love, they went away. Now I probably get them once a month. Such a huge improvement!

  11. keep track of what we eat or drink, i mean really to list them out on a daily basis and you'll find the culprit. of course there are other reasons but at least you've eliminated those caused by food intake which seems to be causing the most problem.

  12. I used to get them in my 20s and then they calmed down. I was prone to them with diesel fumes, sunlight and coffee smells. Great being out doors in the summer. Glad yours are getting better.
