Vent

Do you ever have those days were you just need to get out of your head??? I think I think too much ;) So far, my week has been full of what if's and if only's, and I'm trying to lay down a path and a plan to get to where I want to be- in the quickest way possible.

I have made the decision to pull myself out of my profession of behavioral therapy, and place myself into this wonderful world of writing. This feels good, and more importantly, it feels right. But this also brings a much lower income, loss of medical benefits, change and fear. How can I find success before my rash abandon of who I was kicks me in the ass???

In this great change that I've made, I've also been faced with the absolute worst case scenario- writer's block. I'm thankful to this blog because it keeps we writing something, but I need to discover a cure so I can finish my novel and (hopefully) find an agent who believes in me.

I'm terrified and stressed!

  1. I definitely believe in you Jen. I have read what you have written and therefore I know that you can do it.

Remember what my Dad's said 'When the what-ifs come knocking tell them to fuck-off.'

    Way to go Jen.

    Love Renee xoxo

  2. Chasing and catching your dreams is the greatest gift you can give yourself! I applaud you for taking this big chance...give it time and you will see, doing what you love is a fun road to success! Keep believing in yourself and don't let others tell you health benefits and IRA's are more important!

  3. Kind of exciting for you to be delving off into a whole new direction and letting go of the past....I know it's sometimes easier just to go with what you know...but it doesn't always get you where you want to go. :)

I think you're a FANTASTIC writer, and I always have...and I've always seen you in some sort of writing role...I think i always saw you in a non-fictional type of genre...like a memoir style or light-hearted self help kind of style....something that you can talk from the heart and be yourself in, and still be able to get creative at the same time. :)

I think you'll do great and your niche in life and career will fall into place soon enough. Keep reading a lot and maybe just try reading a lot of different types of things (books, mags - all different genres, newspapers, blogs, cereal boxes, etc. lol) and your writers block will eventually give up. :)

  4. You go for it. You can always return to your profession, but you have to give yourself a chance to be what you want to be. Write a shopping list, write anything, but don't let the block get you down. Write something that you wouldn't normally write. It might work. Good luck!

  12. Congratulations. :-) I'm nowhere near quitting my day job, but writing is dear to my heart, and I wish you well with yours.

I'm not sure if you write fiction or non-fiction, but if it's fiction, I'll give you the best advice for beating writers block that I've ever gotten.

    Just write.

Don't worry about if it's good, or goes with your plot, or anything like that if you feel blocked. Just sit down and start writing...and you'll find yourself unblocked in record time. It works for me, anyways.

Can't wait to hear about your coming success! :-)

  17. You can do it. Look up Goethe's quote, "Begin it now . . . " The gist--once you commit to something fully, the universe works in your favor.
