Living in Los Angeles is very expensive, but I'm a family gal, and since my family is here I won't be leaving any time soon. That being said, it's easy to become overwhelmed by rental and real-estate prices when about $1500 is drained from your account for a simple 1 bedroom apartment each month, and buying an average home in a good area can run you around $1 million. Yes, I just said that!
I've been apartment hunting this month because I'd like a little more room, and the place I have my heart set on is almost $1900/month for a 1 bedroom 2 bath. So sad :( So ridiculous! So this brings me to my plan (not a jam plan- reference via Friends!)- I'm going to start saving up to buy a condo. Much cheaper than a house, not so cramped as an apartment.
I'm in an interesting place in my life with some freelance writing, advertising consultation, my blog and this nearly launched Etsy shop (I'm having professional product photos taken this weekend and then it'll be up!). I can't wait to see if it propells me in the direction of my future condo! Wish me luck!

Good luck! I completely understand what you're saying, since I just left San Diego. But you can do it!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand where you're coming from. I'm currently in the process of looking for a place myself in Manhattan and I'm originally from LA so I know how expensive real estate can get. If you have any advice, please share!!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to stop by my blogs!

I totally understand your plight. My ex lives in Charleston, SC and his studio apartment cost $1000 a month, and that was cheap! I hope you find something perfect for you soon :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a family girl too; London prices are a bit more than L.A., that's why so many Brits like to move there - good prices (!) and better weather.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your condo quest (new name!). I think it's a fine idea - who needs layers in a home anyway?
oh I still wish I could live in LA! :) good luck, girl, can't wait to see your shop!
ReplyDeletecheck out my Alexia Admor giveaway :)

Ok, I would say you need to move to New Hampshire but then again, it's New Hampshire so take the view of LA and do your best! Good luck, you'll find something great!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
ReplyDeleteOh girl, I wish I lived back there so I could help ya. :( My fingers are crossed for ya and your new living adventures. ;) I myself have to find me a new place but it's not easy. :( But it is for sure cheaper. ;) haha. Then again, I'd give almost everything to go back to CA and live there. :D
ReplyDeleteHave a great day girl. xoxo
I hope it all comes together for you and you are able to get what you need. Hugs :O)
ReplyDeletegood for you! we've lived in Santa Barbara and the SF area...daunting. When a friend of ours just bought a house (cute bungalow) in POrland, Oregon for $175,000 we wanted to congratulate and hate her at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. I hope you find the perfect place.
ReplyDeleteyayy! Good luck! I think you can do it!! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Love the Friends reference, btw :)
ReplyDeleteBest of Luck on your hunt! Looking forward to your seeing your Etsy shop open up!
ReplyDeleteLUCK!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!!!
ReplyDeleteMy jaw just hit the floor when you were discussing apartment rental prices. My husband and I OWN a 8 year old 3 bedroom/2 bath home with a full basement and attached 2 car garage in a really nice neighborhood...and the $1900 rental is more than double our house payment...WOWSER!
Good luck, I've heard how expensive it is out there so hopefully you find a great deal!
ReplyDeletegood luck honey! :)
ReplyDeletethat is a great goal!
PS: I finally made it over to your blog!! took me awhile, but now I see I have been missing out, so I'm going to catch up! :)
Good luck, girl! Owning anything in this town is shades more awesome than renting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you have everything you need to become a home (or condo) owner!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming to visit my blog and commenting! I appreciate it! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck on everything!!! I loved that you were so honest about rent in L.A. It's true! I'm beginning a move to NY, and I am worried about the exact same thing - ugh!

I just left LA for an even more expensive city (NYC)...so good luck! But you will make it happen :)
