Little Brothers

{The 20 year old}

{The 18 year old}

I've been both an only child and the eldest child. I have two younger brothers, and the age difference between me and them is so vast that I've held both birth place titles for significant periods of time.

Up until I was 10 years old, I lived the lonely and spoiled life of an only child. At 12 years old, I gained another brother. It was surreal to have the dynamic duo of me and my mom (hello, girl power!) split up to make room for two little boys and a new pseudo dad.

I didn't have a difficult time with it, per se, but it was definitely an adjustment. The new lifestyle hit in my pre-teen years, so I think I was willing to let go of the childhood I once knew in order to pass the torch to the new little ones and step into the exciting world of the teen years.

Anyway, this past weekend marked the 18th birthday of my youngest brother, and it was oh so bittersweet. Like my mom, I also want to keep them young forever. I'm an extremely protective older sister! I've been reminiscing about the days when we used to watch Saturday morning cartoons together, and past holidays full of laughter.

*Speaking of laughter, we celebrated the 18 year old's birthday at a comedy club, his very first adult event! So much fun!

I'm incredibly proud of my "little" brothers (who dwarf my 5'1 height with their 6'+ heights). The 20 year old is studying to become a physical therapist; the 18 year old is a little shaky on what it is that he wants to do, but has the gift of excelling at whatever he touches in his back pocket.

I adore them both so much, and just had to bring them to the blog for a post :)

  1. Wow, they look like twins! I am an only child/baby of the family. My sister is 12 years older than me and got married when I was 6. I pretty much remember her being out of the home and kind of see her as a 2nd Mother :) Her 1st daughter is only 6 years younger than me so needless to say our family dynamics are not the norm, LOL. It gives us wonderful personalities to have mixed birth orders!
