Dynamic Range of My Favorite Authors

{J.K. Rowling}

Ever since the end of the Harry Potter series, I've been waiting (quite patiently, might I add) for J.K. Rowling's next novel. Like music to my ears, today I heard that it is finally happening! Rowling's new novel, The Casual Vacancy, is for adults and is set to be released on September 27, 2012.

The publisher says that this new novel is "blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising". Blackly comic? Yes, please!

I love seeing an author's range and can't wait to find out if J.K. Rowling can bring her legendary writing magic to the adult table. For another look at a popular author's scope, I highly suggest reading Stephanie Meyer's The Host. I was quite pleased with her take on alien invasion and can't wait for the sci-fi thriller movie to come out in 2013. I have a feeling that it will translate to film much better than Twilight did ;)

Another author who has floored me with their dynamic range is Anne Rice. She wrote erotica under the pseudonyms A.N. Roquelaure (Sleeping Beauty trilogy) and Anne Rampling (Exit to Eden and Belinda) in the 1980s. Then she went on to craft the incredible Vampire Chronicles and The Lives of the Mayfair Witches. She did a 180 from there and steered away from her Gothic tendencies to write both The Life of Christ and Songs of the Seraphim series. Now she's dipping her toes back into the supernatural, but with a whole new spin thanks to her most recent novel, Wolf Gift (which is amazing!).

I think it's time to pull out my Kindle and read all through this rainy night!

P.S. You can pre-order J.K. Rowling's The Casual Vacancy now.

  1. Yay to J.K.'s new book! I'm so very excited :)

  2. Oh good! sounds like a good read.

  3. I can't wait. I love J.K Rowling. I've also read The Host by Stephanie Meyers and was pleasantly surprised, hopefully the film will be better than the Twilights. haha.

  4. I just saw an excellent bio special on JKR on Canadian Broadcast the other night. She is an such interesting person with a true gift ...

  5. Justine, I think there's hope for The Host. I'm really looking forward to the movie (even if it's bad, lol). And I'm over the moon excited about J.K. Rowling's new novel. I had to pre-order it ;)

  6. I had no clue she was finally going to write a book targeted for adults, can't wait to see if she can pull it off! =o) and I have to admit, I think I actually enjoyed The Host more than I did the Twilight series.

  7. Susan, I love the specials about Rowling! She's amazing - such an inspiration. I just adore her!

  8. Amber, I have the utmost confidence in Rowling. I think she has true talent and can pull off pretty much anything! Time will tell, though. Ahh! September seems so far away!
