I have to admit, I'm a sucker for cooking shows. I've weened myself off of the Food Network for the most part, but if there's a themed competition or a show that pairs travel with food I'll try to tune in. My favorite shows, though, are those which feature Molecular Gastronomy. Top Chef and Iron Chef America both tend to consistently have dishes that use this exciting form of cooking.
Molecular Gastronomy is the fusion of food science and culinary arts. Think of it as a mashup of chemistry and home economics. You use gasses to create solids out of liquids and change mundane textures into something wholly new.
I've recently discovered a company called MOLECULE-R. They sell Molecular Gastronomy kits for the average person to use in their very own kitchens! When I told my boyfriend about this website, his jaw practically hit the floor. He's the biggest foodie (as well as science geek) that I know, and this news had him practically clawing at the computer to see for himself. He actually said "I always thought that I'd have to travel to some 10 star restaurant in a far-off eastern European country to try food like this, and all I have to do is order a kit online?!" I think I know what he's getting for Christmas now ;)
My boyfriend is silly - there are actually quite a few places that feature these experimental dishes here in Los Angeles, but we'd have to pay an arm and a leg for a single dinner. I love the fact that with one of these kits I'd look like a master chef in my very own kitchen. My friends would be so impressed! Can you imagine serving mint caviar, frozen chocolate wind, balsamic vinegar pearls, rum sheets and solidified cocktails to your guests?!
MOLECULE-R offers four kits:
The kits come with recipe DVDs, tools and the fun additives that turn mundane food into magical edible creations!
Feel free to follow MOLECULE-R on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube (for some awesome videos!). Let me know if you order any of these kits as gifts! I think they're going to be a huge hit this year!
