Five Songs

Music makes my world go round. It always has and always will. Here are 5 songs that have touched me in very profound ways ...

"The Goonies 'R' Good Enough" by Cyndi Lauper was a childhood favorite. It set the mood for adventure!

"Drain You" by Nirvana has always made my stomach flutter like a roller-coaster drop. It was a staple in my teens.

"Ladykillers" by Lush was my breakup anthem all through high school. It felt so empowering to end a relationship and blast this on my little stereo in my poster-strewn bedroom.

"I Can't See New York" by Tori Amos will always remind me of my last days with my grandma. Over the course of those final days I took several breathers on her back porch to escape the heaviness of the situation, and I'd take my headphones and little portable disk player out with me.

Flash forward 6 months later and I was sitting at a Tori Amos concert. She started playing this song and I about lost my shit in a crowd of thousands. It's so heartbreakingly, hauntingly beautiful.

"Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve makes my heart swell. I imagine this playing at my wedding!

*Some fun Jen & Joe trivia: we had our very first date back in high school and were supposed to have a second to go see Cruel Intentions, but we never did. Four years later, we had our big do-over and had our second "first date" which was a hit! We officially became a couple and one of the first things we did was watch Cruel Intentions in my tiny studio apartment. The movie ends with an epic scene and "Bittersweet Symphony" playing it out!

Coming up next: "React to this term: Letting Go"
