Fried Green Tomatoes at Disneyland

I don't know about you, but I love fried green tomatoes! I know, I know, if you've never had them before they probably sound absolutely wrong. If that's the case, just think of them like this: battered and fried tangy goodness!

I've pretty much always lived in Los Angeles, so fried green tomatoes weren't really a restaurant menu option for me. My mom made them once when I was a little girl and I fell madly in love with this strange southern treat. Flash forward - oh, say 20 years - and I pretty much fell into happy hysterics when I found them featured on the Jazz Kitchen menu one day.

My boyfriend gave me the "you so crazy" look as I ordered a side of them. He hates tomatoes and this was just a deeper level of "ick" to him. Until, that is, he cringed and agreed to "try new things" only to find that they were indeed amazing! They came with this incredible creole dipping sauce and we found ourselves placing a second (and then third) order. It's now our Jazz Kitchen date night staple!

Suffice it to say that when I heard that Disneyland's Hungry Bear Restaurant serves a fried green tomato sandwich, I flipped my lid. It's a delicious concoction of whole grain bread spread with rémoulade, havarti cheese, fried green tomato and a jicama mango slaw. It sounds like perfection!

As I grow older, I find myself visiting the happiest place on earth more for the food than for the rides!

  1. I have to admit, I'm a tomato hater myself so this just doesn't even sound remotely appetizing lol but props to Joe for agreeing to try them!

    1. He's grown so much, lol. He hated so many foods when we first started dating. Now, he'll at least try everything and will actually eat tomatoes and onions!
