Day 36: #100HappyDays

Louise Post, Nina Gordon, Veruca Salt, reunion tour, 2014 tour, girl band, girl rock, mom rock, 90s bands, The Roxy
{Veruca Salt @ The Roxy in Hollywood - June 2014}

I was born in 1981 and I strongly believe that the 80s was the best decade to be a child. We had the greatest cartoons, the best movies and the coolest toys. Seriously, what beats The Smurfs, The Breakfast Club and Skip-It?

The 90s, though ... that was the best decade to be a teenager. Why? Because of the music. I got through those teen years with heavy doses of Nirvana, Weezer, Tori Amos, Garbage, Beck, Smashing Pumpkins and Veruca Salt.

It's no surprise then that I bought tickets to see Veruca Salt during their reunion tour! They played a packed yet quaint show at The Roxy in Hollywood and they played to perfection. I kid you not, even after their long hiatus, Veruca Salt is probably the best live band I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Every note was spot on, their set list included all of their hits (and then some) and a couple of new songs, and they seemed genuinely happy to be there on stage. Nina Gordon was a total doll as she shared that Forsythia was about the lies she used to tell when she was 7 years old, and Louise Post stole my heart when she threw roses out into the crowd during the encore.

{Veruca Salt - Victrola}

The highlight of the show for me was when they played Victrola. It's my favorite song of theirs and it rivaled my other favorite concert moment: Tori Amos playing 2 pianos at once with her eyes closed!

I left The Roxy feeling like a teenager again. It was just the kind of recharge that a 30-something year old needs here and there.

P.S. Here are a few other songs from the night ...

{Veruca Salt - Shutterbug}

{Veruca Salt - Volcano Girls}

{Veruca Salt - Forsythia}

{Veruca Salt - Hey Little Ghost / Seether}
